The Aurora History Museum is partnering with Town Center at Aurora to bring an informative series of exhibits to the center.
The current exhibit is titled: A Mosaic of Cultures: Aurora’s Ethiopian Communities
Aurora is home to a vibrant Ethiopian population, comprised of people from diverse ethnic, linguistic and religious backgrounds. With varied cultures, differing identities and many contributions, these communities have impacted Aurora in numerous ways.
In 2014 the city joined in a sister cities alliance with Adama, Ethiopia to develop a long-term cultural, educational, and economic relationship. To build on this partnership, the Aurora History Museum collaborated with Aurora Sister Cities International to celebrate our Ethiopian residents, giving voice to those living, working and owning businesses in Aurora. We worked with members of the local Ethiopian community to gather stories about coming to Aurora, what it is like to own a business in the city, and how Ethiopian residents keep their cultures alive while living in America.
